Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a member of Congress and a former US senator who represents California. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010 she was appointed Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator who advocated for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. A path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally recognized. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her pointed questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of assault on a woman.
